Couldn't load pickup availability
Argon is a totally inert, colourless, odourless, non-toxic, non-flammable gas.
It is the most available rare gas found in our atmosphere.
Being inert it is an asphyxiant and must not be breathed.
Density is 1.69 kg/m3
(i.e. 1.4 relative to the density of air at sea level atmospheric conditions)
Applications
· Inert atmosphere for TIG and MIG welding.
· Plasma welding and cutting.
· Chromatography and spectrometry.
· In incandescent bulb manufacture.
· As an inert atmosphere for the food industry.
Hazards
Argon is totally inert and as such is an asphyxiant.
In confined poorly ventilated spaces, if allowed to build up and displace the air we breathe it will In high concentrations cause asphyxiation. Initial symptoms include loss of mobility followed by loss of consciousness. The person subjected to this will most likely neither sense nor be aware of this which makes it essential that the air (Together with the approximately 20% of Oxygen) is being diluted if asphyxiation is to be avoided. It is however non-toxic and non-flammable.
